Motor vehicle crashes are a common cause of trauma injury seen by Dr. Peter Arnold, Professor and Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Chief of Staff at University of Mississippi Medical Center.
In this case, a 27-year-old woman was injured in a rollover crash, suffering an open right pilon fracture. After multiple surgical debridements and stabilization with an external fixator, the medial and posterior skin died and only one vessel was good – but barely so.
As a mother of small children, the patient wanted to go home for the holidays, so Dr. Arnold and his team took a non-traditional approach to soft tissue reconstruction.
In this case-specific webinar, Dr. Arnold discusses:
-
- Treatment steps he took so that the patient could be home for holidays
- The rapid revascularization that occurred in the wound
- How he addressed granulation tissue before skin graft application
